A Brief History PDF Print E-mail

The idea of Duckbill Studios started in February 2004 when Tadashi realized that if he was going to create better art he was going to need better control over the the technical aspects of the creative process.  At the time, the studio was unnamed and just a personal dream.  After talking to several friends, he realized that a small glassblowing studio could be built.  Initially the studio was going to be a one-man shop located in his back yard shed but that turned out to be unfeasible for many different reasons.

During that period, Tadashi realized that a larger studio could provide a place for other professional artists to work was a more viable option.  A larger studio could also provide more space to teach classes to the public, conduct workshops and host demonstration events.  With this new vision in mind, the only thing left to do was to give the studio a name.  This turned out to be a monumental task spanning several weeks.  We finally ended up with the name "Duckbill Studios".

We figured that a mission statement for the studio would be a good thing to have.  Having a mission statement would help to guide our decisions associated with the operation of Duckbill Studios.  After much thought, here is our mission statement.

Our Mission:

Promote  knowledge about the art of glassblowing through classes, workshops and demonstrations.
