Allen Bush

Born in the lake area of central Michigan, Allen has devoted himself to the field of glass artistry. Since 1978 he has experimented with many unique areas of glass: cold glass, fusion, slumping, glass casting, and blown glass.
His unique adventures in glass sculpting deal with current social or personal issues. Allen’s blown glasswork has an organic style of exploration and presentation. His stained glass is shown in private residences, restaurants, bars, churches, and synagogues.

Allen entered glassblowing by apprenticing with a Georgia glassblower and advanced his knowledge by taking classes at Penland School of Crafts. Areas of concentration include: surface decoration with Billy Bernstein, expansion of the traditional form in glassblowing, and new techniques in contemporary glass casting and mold making. Allen also enjoys problem solving and technical aspects of setting up a glassblowing studio and has built five such studios.

This interest became an important asset when Silver Dollar City came to town.  AIIen’s knowledge and experience led him to Crossroads, where he worked with administration and craftsmen to develop and set up this studio. He currently holds the position of master glassblower. He enjoys the fun times demonstrating glassblowing and meeting the visitors to Crossroads.

He currently shows his work in 175 shops and galleries in Canada, USA, and South America. Allen has private studios in Monroe and Winder, Georgia. Allen produces sculpture, blown glass art pieces, and a line of wholesale blown glass which includes custom blown glass lighting.
