RAD 2012
RAD Studio Cruise Survivor’s Guide
WHAT IS THE RAD STUDIO CRUISE?
The RAD Studio Cruise was formed to showcase and promote a burgeoning arts district coalescing around a one mile stretch of CSX rail line centered on Avondale Estates. This one day event gives you the opportunity to visit a variety of studios to get the behind the scenes look of what it takes to create art.
So take a break from the mainstream and come cruisin’.
WHEN
It’s no fun cruising if the studios aren’t open. So mark the date in your calendar.
The 5th Annual RAD Studio Cruise will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2011. Event hours are from 11am thru 10pm but will vary by location. Check the schedule for the event times at each location (See below under GET A SCHEDULE).
GET A MAP

We know some OTP folks who treat this section of town like a different country (you know who you are) so having a map handy is a good idea. If you forget yours, most studios will have one available.
There are lot of new venues on the cruise this year. We hope that you’ll visit every single venue. This event wouldn’t be very much fun for the studio artists without your participation. Your energy gives us that extra shot of adrenalin that keeps us running through this long day.
For the smartphone aware, we have a Google Maps Version (http://maps NULL.google NULL.com/maps/ms?msid=206912569308506177599 NULL.0004603c1117322f5d2d6&msa=0&ll=33 NULL.780752,-84 NULL.270716&spn=0 NULL.021794,0 NULL.048194).

While the event starts at 11:00 AM, each individual studio sets their hours for RAD. So check the schedule. Most studios will have some sort of demo, some will have some sort of cruiser participation activity, while others will have exhibits. In general there will be some sort of art related activity at each event location.
PLOT A COURSE
With your map and schedule in hand you’ll need to plot a course. Keep in mind that this is studio cruise and not a studio walk. Studios may be some distance from each other with busy E. Ponce de Leon running down the middle.
Parking may be limited at each venue so there may be a little bit of walking through the neighborhood but it’ll be so worth the effort. Wear comfy shoes.
FOOD
While a lot of venues will have some some sort of refreshment, it is a good idea to know where the food places are located. In this area of town there are a lot places to grab a bite to eat.
Urban Grounds, Southern Sweets, Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market, Pine Street Market, Savage Pizza, Avondale Pizza, the food trucks are some of the places to check out. If you aren’t satisfied with the selections in this area, wander a little further into Decatur.
Fun Food Fact: Waffle House was started in Avondale Estates. The Waffle House Museum located on E. College Ave was the site of Waffle House #1.
HAVE FUN
Remember to have fun.
You can walk around, chat with artists, follow the beat of a different drummer, listen to music, find a gift, learn how to build a boat, watch glassblowing, watch pottery and much more in a single Saturday afternoon.
If you are attending, invite your friends on Facebook with the following EVENT INVITATION (http://www NULL.facebook NULL.com/events/338525852836822) and come as a group.
